“Thank You” Like David, not Dido

thank you

This week we have several psalms that focus on the cause and effect of our relationship with God. God, you did _________ so I’m going to praise you. This is something I’ve been working on for a while with my two year old and it’s an easy thing to start with your kids too.

Georgia and I pray together every night before bed. I pray a little and then ask her what she’d like to thank God for. Sometimes she says she just wants mommy to pray, so we go with that. Other nights, we spend quite a bit of time thanking God for things ranging from circles to noses and daddy to dinosaurs. I know it sounds simple, but I believe she is learning that it matters that we give God thanks and praise, just like they did in the Psalms.

June 22: Psalm 71
Today’s Takeaways:

  • Though we don’t know who the author is, it is clear he had been walking with the Lord for a long time.
  • Because of the author’s experiences with God’s faithfulness, his response is to praise God.

Today’s Talking Topic:

June 23: Psalm 72
Today’s Takeaways:

  • Solomon, the author of today’s psalm, was David’s son and the king of Israel after him.
  • The final verse tells us this was the last of the psalms associated with David. We will still see some in the psalms, but that’s because they were not ordered chronologically.

June 26: Psalm 75
Today’s Takeaways:

  • God is fully in control. We are mistaken if we think we are.

Today’s Talking Topic:

  • What’s something in your life that reminds you that God is in control and you are not?

June 27: Psalm 76
Today’s Takeaways:

  • God’s unmatched power and strength are reasons to praise him.
  • Sometimes praise just means listing off all the great attributes of God.

Today’s Talking Topic:
