All but one of this week’s Psalms specifically say they were written by David. And, in this week of Psalms we will see a wide range of thoughts and feelings. David wants his enemies to get what’s coming to them but he also encourages all faithful people to praise God regularly. David pleas for God to bring him up out of the pit and later confidently says, “You are my God.”
This wide range doesn’t indicate a wishy-washy faith in David. It indicates real faith. David is willing to share his entirety with God. He holds nothing back. We, in many ways, have become too polite with God. We don’t want to bother or burden him and we certainly wouldn’t want him to see our warts and smudges. David really knew God and knew God could handle all of him. Our faith should look much more like David’s – wide open.
